Chapter Four -"Crime and Trial"

Finally a decent ways into Tartarus, Raziel dispatched of his faux guard. Upon observation, he discovered how truly horrible this place was. Beings were chained to walls and whipped with pure flame. Creatures who were almost skeletons but still alive were feasted upon by crows. Raziel, still in his macabre form, shivered and attempted to dispel the chill he got. “This place… is a vast realm. I hope I’ll be able to find Vittur…” Raziel said, drifting off towards some prisoners mining.

Jenxier breathed heavily while he bled and mulled over his new information. He was in the presence of Vlad Dracul? The one who had impaled all those… One of the most evil men ever to walk the face of the Earth. Why did he want Jenxier? What could he need this help with? “What… would you ask… of me?” He asked at length.
“I want you to be my assassin. Destroy my foes. I can pay you in a great sum of Tokens.” Vlad replied, pacing.
“Assassin for what? Who could you possibly need killed?” Jenxier pressed.
“I don’t think I should tell you that, at this time. All you need to know is that you are my servant and those you need to kill.” Vlad replied calmly.

Once at the mining quarry, Raziel cringed at what he saw. Demons and souls alike were worked so hard that they were thin as bone. Some of them bled openly, with no assistance. Raziel took a deep breath and scanned for guards. There was one roughly thirty meters away. Raziel hoped he wouldn’t be heard.
“Is there a place here for um… new arrivals?” He asked a prisoner.
“You really shouldn’t talk to me.” The prisoner replied.
“Just tell me… quickly!” Raziel retorted as the guard slowly drew closer.
“That way.” The prisoner motioned with his eyes. “Now go! Before either of us are caught!”
“Thank you.” Raziel said, heading in the indicated direction.

Vittur coughed up blood. He felt as if his insides were on fire and his horns had been almost torn off. He stood in a long line of chained prisoners, going toward Minos, the great judge who determined the fate of Tartarus-worthy criminals. Guards stood along the line, whipping prisoners and shouting. How did I get into this mess? Vittur wondered. Now there were only seven people in front of him in line. Ahead, he could the large golden doors to Minos’s court. One prisoner in from of him fell over, exhausted. Two guards came to remove him from the chain and attach those in front and behind him together. Down to six. Vittur thought.

Jenxier stood in the quarters so graciously given him by Vlad. He cursed the situation he was in. He was practically a criminal now, and he had no say in the matter. There was a knock at his door. Upon opening, the guest appeared to be the one who had brought him to Vlad. The metal-headed beast appeared more civilized now, if that was possible. “What are you doing here?” Jenxier asked, not expecting an answer.
“I am to be your partner on assassination missions.” The creature replied, much to Jenxier’s surprise.
“You… you can speak? What’s your name?” Jenxier asked.
“Nexus.” The creature replied.

Vittur was finally in the court of Minos. The large judge sat in a throne made of obsidian.  “Vittur Zandendal. This is a surprise. You’ve had a clean record until now. You’ve committed a great crime, a mass theft.” Minos said in his bellowing voice.
“I tell you, I did not do it! I was framed! Probably by that Mortugal cur!” Vittur replied.
“You’re word does not prove innocence.” Minos said calmly.
“Then what will!?” Vittur yelled.
“First of all, you may want to reconsider your yelling at a judge.” The behemoth said.

Jenxier and Nexus had been assigned their first mission. The assassination of one of Lucifer’s generals. Jenxier wore the unassuming garb of any demon while Nexus hid in the shadows. The general was in a special box of the arena, one reserved for nobility. There were guards throughout the hall leading to the box, and Jenxier formed a plan. He caught the attention of one of the guards and immobilized him. As soon as he had the uniform on, he headed toward the box.
